The Raiders were back in action on Saturday and Sunday afternoon as they hosted Stillwater for a Saturday doubleheader and traveled to Somerset on Sunday for another twinbill. The Raiders won the first game of the doubleheader vs. Stillwater 4-0 but then dropped the second game by a final score of 9-1. On Sunday, the Raiders swept Somerset by scores of 7-2 and 13-0.
STILLWATER GAME ONE
Cory Larson continued his mastery on the mound as he threw a 7-inning complete game shutout, his second of the season in just three starts. Larson struckout 7 Stillwater hitters, walked just 1 and only allowed 4 hits. Larson earned his first win of the year and improved to 1-0 on the season and reduced his already stellar ERA to a remarkable 0.39
Offensively the blue and white pouned out 7 hits, 2 each from Kory Koller and Derek Krumrei. Krumrei finished 2-3 with a run scored, a double and a walk and Koller finished 2-4 with a run scored, 2 singles, and a stolen base.
STILLWATER GAME TWO
Brett Steinwagner started on the mound for the Raiders and threw 4 complete innings while giving up 4 earned runs, striking out 5 and walking 5. Parker McNamee pitched 2 scoreless innings in relief and struckout 1, and Billy Sarno threw 1 inning in relief and gave up 2 earned runs.
Offensively the Raiders were held to just 1 run on 5 hits. Kory Koller provided the loan RBI on a 1st inning 2B to score Gordon Johnson. Lenzen, Parker McNamee and Kellen Pearson each added singles and Ben Christensen added a triple in the 7th inning. The kicker for the Raiders was that they struck out 11 times and only walked once.
SOMERSET GAME ONE
Jon Stoffer earned his team-leading 2nd win and improved to 2-1 on the season after pitching a 7-inning complete game while giving up just 2 runs on 5 hits, striking out 4 and walking 3. The highlight of Stoffer's pitching performance was not necessarily his numbers, but the toughness he displayed by remaining in the game and finishing the game after taking a line-drive off of his wrist in the 4th inning.
Offensively the Raiders collected 7 runs on 10 hits and were led by the bats of Andrew Entenza, Austin Lenzen and Billy Sarno. Entenza finished 2-2 with 2 runs, 2 hit-by-pitch, 1 RBI and a stolen base. Lenzen crushed a 2 run HR to left centerfield in the 1st inning and finished 2-4 with a run and 2 RBI. Sarno collected 2 singles, one of which was a beautifully placed bunt and finished 2-3. Kory Koller provided a clutch 2 RBI single in the 4th inning to put the Raiders ahead for good.
SOMERSET GAME TWO
Kellen Pearson made his first appearance and start for the Raiders this season and proved to be a valuable pitching tool for the team. Pearson pitched a 5-inning complete game as he earned the win to move to 1-0 on the season. Pearson struck out 7 hitters, walked 3, and gave up 4 hits in his complete game effort.
Offensively the Raiders exploded for 13 runs on 8 hits as they won by the 10-run rule. Leading the charge was Andrew Entenza who smashed a 3-run HR over the left field fence in the 2nd inning to put the Raiders on top 4-0. Entenza doubled the very next inning which drove in another run. Entenza finished 2-4 with 1 run, a double, a HR and 4 RBI as he improved his batting average to .429 which is currently the team's best. Lawrence Pruitt collected 2 hits, one of which was an RBI double in the 4th inning. Pruitt finished 2-3 with 2 runs, a double, a stolen base and 1 RBI. Derek Krumrei chipped in with a 3 run double in the 4th inning to put the Raiders ahead by 13 runs. Krumrei finished 1-4 with a run, a double and 3 RBI.
WEEKEND SUMMARY
Overall the Raiders went 3-1 on the weekend and improved their overall record to 4-4-1 on the season. Next up for Hudson is a home game against Eau Claire on Tuesday 6/29 at 6PM. On Wednesday 6/30, the Raiders will host Chippewa Falls in a 9-inning contest beginning at 5:30PM.
