Hudson dropped two games on Saturday against Mankato, MN and Rosemount, MN before coming back to beat Woodbury, MN on Sunday to finish the River Falls Tournament with a 1-3 record.
Hudson began Saturday's games matched up with Mankato, MN. The Raiders got on the board right away in the first inning when they plated three runs courtesy of a sac fly by Derek Krumrei and a 2 RBI single by Kellen Pearson. In the third inning, Lawrence Pruitt led off with a triple and scored on the next pitch when Brett Steinwagner singled. The Raiders were unable to score the rest of the game. Andrew Entenza and Kory Koller also added singles in the game for Hudson. Kellen Pearson started on the mound for the Raiders and pitched a 6-inning complete game despite receiving the loss for his tremendous performance. Pearson struck out two and gave up 4 earned runs throughout his six innings of work. Despite great pitching and good offense, the Raiders were unable to hold onto the lead and lost to Mankato by a score of 5-4.
In Saturday's second game, the Raiders faced Rosemount, MN with Cory Larson and Jon Stoffer combining for 6 innings of work on the mound. Larson left the game after the first inning with back pain, but Stoffer picked up the slack and kept the Rosemount hitters guessing and the Raiders in the game. Offensively the Raiders were held to just one run on three hits. Lawrence Pruitt provided the game's only RBI on a fielder's choice in the 4th inning. Kory Koller doubled and finished 1-2 with a run. Derek Krumrei provided Hudson's only other hit in the 2nd inning when he singled. The Raiders were unable to muster enough offense and keep up their great pitching and defense as they fell to Rosemount by a final of 10-1.
In Sunday's matchup round, Hudson faced Woodbury, MN. Brian DePauw made his first appearance and start of the summer on the mound and proved to be a competitor as he pitched a 7-inning complete game and earned the victory to move to 1-0 on the season. DePauw faced 28 batters, walked zero and gave up just 2 earned runs in his complete game performance. Offensively the Raiders plated 8 runs on 8 hits en route to their 8-4 victory. Brett Steinwagner led the way for Hudson as he collected two singles and a double and finished the game 3-5 with 2 runs scored and 1 RBI. Lawrence Pruitt added a pair of singles and finished the game 2-4 with a run, a walk and 1 RBI. Kellen Pearson reached on a bunt single in the 5th inning and finished 1-2 with a run and was hit by pitch twice. Brian DePauw helped his own cause in the top of the 6th inning in a tie game with a bases-clearing triple which plated 3 runs and put the Raiders ahead by 3. DePauw finished 1-3 with a triple, a walk and 4 RBI. Ben Christensen scored 3 of the Raiders 8 runs and also added a single in the 3rd inning en route to a 1-2 game with 2 stolen bases and 2 hit by pitches. Solid defense, great pitching and great offense combined to form the Raiders 6th victory of the season in the form of a 8-4 win over Woodbury, MN.
Hudson will be back in action this Wednesday, July 14th when they host Menomonie for a 6PM game.
